Strengthening Healthcare Access in Tanzania: action medeor Inaugurates New facility in Kibaha
On Thursday, June 12, 2025, Tanzania's healthcare sector reached a significant milestone with the official inauguration of action medeor International Healthcare Tanzania's new pharmaceutical warehouse and administration facility in Kibaha.
Dr. Thomas Menn, Vice President of medeor, emphasized the impact of this development, describing it as a vital step towards strengthening the country's medicine supply chains. "This is a milestone for action medeor, with which we are also making an important contribution to the supply of medicines in Tanzania," he stated.
The newly launched warehouse spans 850 square meters and complies with WHO's Good Storage and Distribution Practices. It will house essential healthcare products including pharmaceuticals, medical consumables, laboratory equipment, and hospital supplies.

From this central location, action medeor-often referred to as "the emergency pharmacy of the world"-aims to reach even the most remote health facilities in Tanzania.
"In a country where a large portion of the population resides in rural areas with limited healthcare access, this facility will play a vital role in delivering high-quality medical supplies and supporting universal health coverage," Dr. Menn added. The inauguration ceremony was graced by Hon. Nickson John Simon, the District Commissioner of Kibaha, who served as the Guest of Honour. He praised the initiative for its long-term regional significance, calling it "the beginning of a new chapter in our collective commitment to health equity and emergency preparedness."

The facility was made possible through the generous support of the Rottendorf Foundation, which funded not only the construction but also the furnishing and future operations, including the development of robust quality assurance systems. Representing the foundation at the event was Dr. Lilian Klewitz-Haas, a member of the foundation's board. Alongside the warehouse, a new administration building was inaugurated, creating modern workspaces for over 20 professionals in the fields of pharmacy, healthcare logistics, and medical technology. Dr. Menn highlighted the broader socio-economic impact of the project: "By establishing high-quality technical jobs in specialized fields, we are contributing not only to healthcare delivery but also to regional development."
The design and construction of the new facilities reflect action medeor's commitment to sustainability and transparency. Built using environmentally friendly materials, the site is envisioned not just as a logistics hub but as a center of knowledge sharing, innovation, and professional collaboration in public health. Reflecting on the progress since action medeor began its operations in Tanzania 20 years ago, Dr. Menn expressed deep gratitude and optimism: "It is breathtaking to see how these shared efforts are now materializing. This facility symbolizes our enduring partnership and a collective vision for a healthier future for all Tanzanians."
