About us

action medeor Tanzania

A non-profit pharmaceutical wholesaler, health technology expert, manufacturer of medical products, and health technology training centre in Tanzania. medeor is Latin and means “I heal.”

action medeor International Healthcare Tanzania was founded in 2005 as a procurement and distribution unit for essential medicines and medical supplies — a non-profit branch office of action medeor International Healthcare gGmbH (limited liability company), based in Tönisvorst, Germany. Our target groups are the non-commercial health sector in Tanzania, faith-based organizations, national and international NGOs, and charitable institutions across the country.

Since September 2005 we have operated as an alternative supply system, complementing existing networks for the benefit of customers and patients. We have grown steadily — opening branches in Masasi (2013), Makambako (2015), and Kibaha (2023) — the latter housing both our haematology reagent production line and our Health Technology Training Centre.

We bring deep experience in health technology and have offered a broad device portfolio since 2017. Sales of quality devices are complemented by after-sales service — maintenance, repair, and short user and maintenance training courses delivered through our Health Technology Training Centre in Kibaha. We have been running health technology trainings continuously since August 2021.

In 2023 we began producing high-quality haematology reagents at Kibaha under the Tangent brand — improving the availability of diagnostic services across Tanzania and beyond.

What we do

Reach, partnerships, production, expertise

Since 2005 we have worked to ensure an adequate, effective, and high-quality supply of medicines and medical equipment across Tanzania.

Healthcare in rural regions
In addition to the medicine warehouses in Dar es Salaam and Masasi, a branch was opened in Makambako in March 2018. The town is located in the southern highlands, 650 km from Dar es Salaam. The rural southwest of the country is supplied directly from Makambako. Local partners can now also be supplied within one working day. For action medeor, this is a further step towards improving medical care, particularly in the remote areas of Tanzania.
Our partners
Our aid is supplied in co-operation with different church and secular organizations, religious communities, private initiatives and healthcare centers abroad. Based on many years’ experience, action medeor has built up a comprehensive network of facilities in the healthcare sector.
Reagent production
An innovative project has been underway at the Kibaha site, just outside Dar es Salaam, since 2023: action medeor has opened a production facility for laboratory reagents there. Reagents are chemical substances that are needed to improve diagnoses. The facility is the first of its kind in the whole of East Africa.
Pharmaceutical medical expertise
A further goal is the strengthening of local medical structures in developing countries. To achieve this goal action medeor runs training courses for pharmaceutical personnel and supports the local development and production in collaboration with local manufacturers. This is done to achieve a better availability of drugs and reduce the dependency of the developing countries on expensive imports.
